EDUCATION DEPARTMENT

The goal of the Education Department is to train young men and women who will be equipped to work in a multigrade environment, serve as administrators, and help young people foster a personal relationship with Christ.

Preparing Educators to Influence the Next Generation

The Education Department is dedicated to preparing teachers who combine professional excellence with a genuine passion for helping young people grow academically, spiritually, and socially. We believe education is one of the most powerful ministries available because teachers have the opportunity to shape lives every day.

Students study educational philosophy, teaching methods, classroom management, curriculum design, learning theory, child development, and assessment strategies. Throughout the program, they learn how students think, learn, and grow, while developing practical skills that prepare them for success in elementary and secondary classrooms.

At OHC, future educators learn that effective teaching goes beyond delivering information. Great teachers inspire curiosity, build character, cultivate relationships, and help students discover purpose. Through observation, mentoring, teaching experiences, and collaborative learning opportunities, students develop confidence and practical experience long before they enter their own classrooms.

The Education Department also works closely with the spiritual and practical components of the OHC experience. Students learn how biblical principles can be integrated into instruction and how meaningful experiences can reinforce learning. They gain an appreciation for educating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and discover ways to make learning relevant, engaging, and transformational.

Graduates leave equipped not only to teach academic content but to mentor young people, model Christian values, and create learning environments where students can thrive.

Our EDUCATION Program
Degrees Offered

The Education Department at OHC offers a four-year training program for both elementary and secondary education majors with each student completing a student-teaching opportunity during their last semester before graduation. The program offers some classes that are specific to an elementary classroom, some that are specific to a secondary classroom, and other classes that cover information vital to both types of classrooms. The training our students receive in the education classes is eminently practical, interactive, and thorough.

Bachelor of Secondary Christian Education

This program prepares teachers
to guide students through the formative teenage years with Christ-centered, subject-focused instruction. Graduates are equipped to teach with excellence, disciple with love, and help young people build a biblical foundation for life.

Bachelor of Elementary Christian Education

This program prepares teachers
to nurture the whole child—mind, heart, and hand—through Christ-centered education and hands-on learning. Graduates are equipped to help children grow academically, spiritually, and in character during their most formative years.

“It is not the capabilities you now possess, or ever will have, that will give you success. It is that which the Lord can do for you.”

Our Alumni

Our elementary and secondary education graduates have done much with their training. Many are teaching in Adventist schools around the country. Others have had the opportunity to help small churches start a church school and have seen those schools flourish and minister to many in the churches and surrounding communities.

Still other graduates have gone to the foreign mission fields and are using the skills they learned here at OHC to enlarge the kingdom of heaven.
